U.S. Martial Arts Academy is a multi-faceted school teaching similar but
different styles of Chinese Martial Arts such as Northern Shaolin, Tien Shan Pai, Praying Mantis,
Tai Chi, Hsing-I, Ba Qua, Chi Kung, Chinese Wrestling and Lei Tai Kickboxing (full contact mixed martial art
fighting). Grandmaster Chien Liang Huang
opened the school in Gaithersburg in 1982. Master Joe Dunphy, one of Grandmaster Huang's top students,
took over the day to day running of the school in 1984 and eventually bought the school from Grandmaster
Huang in 1987.
The school relocated in 1997 from a now too small location on route 355 to a
bigger place on Russell Ave, with more space, more room to train and nicer amentities. Besides Master Dunphy
personally supervising each class taught, there is a leadership team of well trained instructors who
enthusiastically teach and lead the classes.
The Lei Tai
Kickboxing program is a rigorous, fun, tough but enjoyable workout
that students have the option of participating in. It is a demanding but rewarding class that will take
your physical fitness and fighting skills to the next level and beyond. Some students eventually even
compete in the national and international lei tai full contact matches that are sponsored by the
U.S.K.S.F.
